Celebrated Mississippi writer Willie Morris was born on November 29, 1934 in Jackson, Mississippi. He and his parents Henry Rae Morris and Marion Weaks Morris lived in Belhaven for the first six months of his life before moving 42 miles north to Yazoo City. His birth home was raised in the 1950s and another house was built on its location at 1125 Poplar Blvd. Willie returned to Jackson later in his life and passed away on August 2, 1999. Today would have been his 72nd Birthday.
