2007 Legislative Races

Belhaven will be a battle ground for two legislative races in 2007.

Cory Wilson (R), former President of the Belhaven Improvement Association and a founder of the Greater Belhaven Neighborhood Association, is challenging incumbent Cecil Brown (D) for the Mississippi House of Representatives District 66 seat. Brown, first elected in 1999, serves as Chairman of the House Education Committee and was formerly chief-of-staff to then Governor Ray Mabus. David Blount (D), Communications Director for Eric Clark and Belhaven resident, is challenging incumbent Richard White (R) for the Mississippi State Senate District 29 seat. Blount is vice president of Parents for Public Schools and serves on the state PTA Board.
